Leandro Cano, this year’s winner of the Designer for Tomorrow award, is back home in Sevilla, preparing for his busy life as an upcoming designer. As Leandro reveals, he can’t let go of Berlin, the city that had a major impact on his design career: “I just finished that one day in Berlin, I was so inspired and started to create the new collection
We are proud to present you today’s video, which shows how on July 4th the hard work of our five finalists finally paid off when they got to show their designs on the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.
Luckily, we weren’t the ones who had to make the final decision because all five collections of the designers were unique and special with lots of attention to detail; it made it almost impossible to announce a winner. In the end, Leandro Cano won the majority of our jury’s votes and was awarded as the Designer for Tomorrow 2012! With incredible designs as well as with his emotional and genuinely happy appearance on stage, Leandro did not only win the award, but also the audience’s hearts.
You are all winners. Marc Jacobs encouraged the five newcomer designers before the big DfT award show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week yesterday started. And, yes, he is right! All of the young designers are unique, so different from each other and so very good! It must have been a hard decision for the jury. On the catwalk each collection looked just as brilliant as they are and the jury had to decide quickly. You could tell by seeing their faces: „Oh, but he was also good…“ Or: „Actually, I loved her collection as well.“
We’re thrilled to announce the new blog patron for DfT 2012: Kathrin Bierling, fashion journalist and director of the infamous style blog modepilot.de!
Until January 2013, Kathrin will cover all DfT events and news with the bluntness fashion experts have come to appreciate at modepilot, and make sure you’ll get all the info from behind the scenes!
The trained fashion editor will report from DfT highlights as the media morning with Marc Jacobs, the final fitting or the DfT award show and after show reception. Kathrin will also cover the winner’s journey to New York where he or she gets to visit Marc Jacobs at his studio in downtown Manhatten as well as the visit of New York Fashion Week! Moreover, there are some insight interviews with the finalists to come!
