DfT Family: Marc Jacobs’ first steps on his way to success in the world of fashion

While there are many reasons why Marc Jacobs is an absolutely great and fitting choice as the patron of the “Designer for Tomorrow” award, we want to tell you a little more about one particular reason today.

Some of you may not know that Marc himself actually won a new talent award! In 1987, he was the youngest designer to ever win the Perry Ellis Award for “New Fashion Talent”. The award is hosted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) up to this date and is considered one of the fashion industry’s highest tributes. The CFDA is a not-for-profit trade association which has continuously advanced the status of fashion design as being part of American art and culture since 1962.

While there is no doubt about Marc Jacob’s talent and his success in the fashion industry today, it is of utter importance to have fashion talent awards to put a spotlight on young, highly talented designers that may not have the means to get started in the fashion industry by themselves.

Having Marc Jacobs as part of the “Designer for Tomorrow” award shows the prospects our young designers have and the amount of opportunities their future can bring. We love having him as an inspiration and role model for our up-and-coming talents!
