Backstage at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, chaos reigns. Models are running back and forth, hair stylists cover the scene in clouds of hairspray, fitting assistants try to squeeze feet in shoes that are two numbers too small. We asked Alexandra Kiesel how she survived the turbulences of her first solo fashion show, and what has changed during her DfT year:
„I made a collection of 30 pieces in only four months. This time round, it was much more professional, and that was a great development. As my building block system was already established now, we were also able to work much quicker.
My best backstage moment definitely was my awesome interns backing me up. While I was busy doing press,
they’d take over my job backstage, like slitting open skirts that were still too tight, The whole Kiesel team worked really great together!“
While Alexandra always keeps her calm, we also wanted to know about those seconds when it looks like it’s all going wrong: What was the most nerve-wrecking moment of her big day?
„The worst moment was when a fitting assistant completely ripped open the seam of a zipper just before the show started, and I had to sew it back together by hand just in time to send the model on the catwalk. I don’t think anybody noticed!“
