It was the reunion that DfT winner Alexandra Kiesel was looking forward to the most on her recent trip to New York: visiting the fabulous Marc Jacobs headquarter and meeting up again with the star designer and patron of the “Designer for Tomorrow” Award!
After she already got to sit in the front row of the „Marc by Marc Jacobs“ show in New York, the studio visit clearly left a huge impression on newcomer Alexandra: „Getting the chance to see how a big brand like Marc Jacobs works, definitely has changed the way I look at the process of designing and producing. Love for details and the use of high quality material are two insights I am taking with me. It was also interesting to learn what sells best – handbags and accessories – which is something I will also keep in mind when working on my collection.“
Jacobs himself was super busy preparing his show, but in between model fittings he took the time to catch up with his protegé, happily receiving a photo book of the exciting times at the DfT finalist show in Berlin. „He probably gave me the most important advice of my career so far“, Alexandra recalls from their meeting, „that creative ideals are essential, but at the end of the day, your work has to sell! I was also amazed by how much he actively takes part in little details and final changes for the upcoming show.“ Summing it up, talking to MJ was Alexandra‘s favorite memory from her Big Apple adventures, „Marc was very charming – as always!“
