It has been a couple of months since the five finalists showed their debut collections at the DfT show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin 2011. From that point on, winner Alexandra Kiesel has already been telling us about her latest adventures. Now it’s time to look at what the other design talents have been up to!
Markus Schmidbauer is first to tell us about what’s been happening after all the hustle and bustle of his first major show: „So many things have been going on. My designs have been published in magazines and I am now part of a design team with fashion designer Patrick Mohr. It’s the perfect combination for me: Working with design and brand management.“ The 25-year-old designer, who graduated this year from the Academy of Fashion and Design in Munich with a degree in Fashion and Design Management, is definitely remembered for the radical showpieces of his collection. For future projects, he plans to also design more ‚wearable’ pieces, but will keep creating adventurous items that stand out and strongly visualize the theme of his collection.
His favorite memory from the DfT time is that he never felt any competitiveness amongst the five finalists. That is something, he hadn’t expected with a young group of ambitious creatives: „We all got along really well from the start. We have been partying together in Berlin before and after the show and we even helped each other with last minute collection changes in our hotel rooms. But the biggest satisfaction for me, during all the months of being part of DfT, was that, if you believe in your work, you can achieve everything in life – no matter what other people think they know about you!“
