When DfT winner Alexandra Kiesel gets to New York’s Lincoln Center in the morning, where the shows of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week take place, she is engrossed in thoughts and scribbles down some inspirations in her infamous notebook, while eating a croissant from her breakfast.
As she laughingly cites the wisdom lines she just got from her cabdriver, tons of passionate fashion bloggers already snap pictures in front of the show tent. The Satorialist is there, running up and down to capture New York’s latest outfit extravaganzas, and the place quickly turns into a catwalk before the shows even start. „The difference to Berlin is that even in a crowd in which everybody’s outfit is an eye-catcher, many of them look like true originals and still stand out!“ Alexandra explains. It doesn’t take long until a young male blogger from Tokio approaches her to take a picture. What the young man doesn’t know is – unlike the rest of the crowd – her skirt is vintage and her beautiful golden necklace was a 1,50€ bargain buy from a Berlin flea-market! Next is an older gentleman in a blue jacket, New York’s oldest streetstyle photographer, who has fallen in love with her vintage shoes! It’s her unimpressed attitude and laid-back style that catches the eyes of style-hungry bloggers, and Alexandra has to pose several more times on her way to the Milly by Michelle Smith fashion show. The lineal-shaped designs are Alexandra’s favorite pieces of the collection, and she wonders if headscarves are going to be the next big trend this season. When asked about her favorite feature during the past show days, she quickly says: „The laughing models at Anna Sui’s show!“, something she definitely considers bringing back to Berlin for her own collection at the next Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin 2012!
