In the last weeks a surprising number of graduates of Europe’s top fashion schools have answered the call for applications for this award. Together with the DfT jury Marc Jacobs has now nominated the five finalists for the up and coming talent award ‘Designer for Tomorrow by Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf’.
The top 5 young designers are:
- Marc Buscha (Akademie Mode und Design Berlin)
- Lena Hasibether (Fachhochschule Bielefeld)
- Jonathan Christopher Hofwegen (ArtEZ hoogeschool voor de kunsten Arnhem)
- Alexandra Kiesel (Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee)
- Markus Schmidbauer (Akademie Mode und Design Munich)
The young designers have had their first exciting meeting: Marc Jacobs arrived from New York to get to know the young creatives and discuss their designs.
‘Each collection tells a different story and reflects the personality of the designer. I am very impressed with the variety of ideas!’, Marc Jacobs commented after the initial viewing. Marc Buscha presented a thrilling mix of materials incorporating traditional loden, knitwear and linen. Lena Hasibether revealed prints of antique robes on modern T-Shirts and Jonathan Christopher Hofwegen unveiled a range of elaborate and exquisitely crafted menswear.
Alexandra Kiesel’s work is based on the artful combination of strong colors and geometric shapes, whilst Markus Schmidbauer surprised with his eclectic synthetic designs.
Now the finalists can look forward to the DfT talent award show which will take place on July 6th, 2011. Together with the jury, the designer Marc Jacobs will then pick the winner of this year’s ‘Designer for Tomorrow’. The winner will be offered a development program throughout which P&C will be at hand with individually tailored support over the period of nearly a year. The winner’s highlight will be the opportunity to stage his or her own fashion show during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin in January 2012.
